There is another promising Filipino gymnast in the midst and he goes by the name of Karl Jahrel Eldrew Yulo. If his name rings a bell it is because he is the younger brother of Carlos Edriel Yulo, the first Filipino and male Southeast Asian gymnast to win a medal at the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
The 11-year-old Yulo garnered attention in gymnastics recently when he copped five gold medals at the 2019 Palarong Pambansa National Finals held at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum in Davao City.
The incoming sixth-grader amassed 11.975 points in the vault, 9.20 in the high bar, 9.20 in the mushroom and 12.0 in the floor exercise to also clinch the all-around title, Inquirer.net reported.
“Overwhelmed.. proud because he’s following the footsteps of his brother,” said proud mother Angelica Yulo.
Karl admits that his idol is no other but his older brother. When asked if Caloy already got word of his younger brother’s feat, Mrs. Yulo said that they have not yet talked although she is certain that he knows already.
“For sure alam nya na po. Di pa po kami nagkakausap,” she said.
The key to Karl’s success is preparation. Mrs. Yulo bares how her unraveled such a fine showing.
“Rigid training po. Training every day 6 days week 4 to 5 hours a day.”
According to her, Karl is pretty much satisfied with his performance at the 2019 Batang Pinoy and other competitions. She also revealed that next up for the 11-year-old is a meet in Manila this coming November.
“Happy and satisfied naman po siya sa result every time mag-compete siya. Meron pa Manila meet sa November po,” said Mrs. Yulo.
